About Andy
"My journey with guitar has taken me from teaching locally in Ipswich to performing professionally on cruise ships around the world. After building up a strong base of students from 2014 - 2019, I then spent several years working full-time as a musician at sea, gaining valuable experience across a wide range of styles and performance settings and playing along side many amazing musicians. Now back home, I am once again offering lessons but with a fresh perspective and even more real-world knowledge and insight to share.
I teach students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to more advanced players. I aim to make lessons relaxed, enjoyable, and tailored to each individual, and I have experience working with students with learning disabilities and impaired vision.
My main musical influences are blues, funk, soul and rock, and I particularly enjoy teaching improvisation and music theory, helping students develop confidence, musicality, and the ability to express themselves on the instrument."

About the Lessons

Each lesson is tailored to the individual, with a range of structured lesson plans available for different ages, abilities, and musical styles. At the same time, lessons can stay flexible—focusing on what you enjoy and want to achieve, whether that’s learning songs, improving technique, or building a deeper understanding of the instrument.
A wide range of professional, easy-to-follow resources are used during lessons, with materials provided to support practice between sessions. Resources can also be adapted or created to suit the way you learn best. For those interested, lessons can include music notation, alongside improvisation, theory, and general musicianship.
If you’re interested in taking things further, there’s also the opportunity to explore what’s involved in playing in professional settings, including cruise ship work, and the skills needed to move in that direction.

Testimonials ⭐
"Andy has been teaching our 6yr old son how to play the guitar for nearly a year now, before he started our son hadn’t even been introduced to a guitar. He has come such a long way and is often able to teach us things when he returns home from his lesson. He finds Andy very approachable and Andy is very good at tailoring his teaching to the individuals needs."
- Samantha Smy

- Kevin Hay
"Andy is very patient, supportive and passionate about music. He is always keen to help and guide me with new ideas. It feels much more like a collaboration than a lesson. I have been having lessons with Andy for a year now and have seen first hand, how he can help someone progress from a total beginner to playing a variety of styles."
